Works for me. Athletes get paid too much anyway. Nice to see him being humble, I guess.

I understand that people see this as being humble but I see it as pointless. I understand wanting to save money but why not at least get a decent newer car?

Likely a positive return for their owner on whatever their paycheck is. When boiling it down, athletes are the sales people who more than justify their paycheck.
If the argument is black and white, any cost center of a company is overpaid for their contribution, no?

If I was on a $90 million dollar contract... I would keep my 335i as a “beater” then just go crazy. Must have a lot of self control haha!

Why do they? Because they are advertisements.

True. It’s just hard to accept for a lot of people that a sports player has a net worth larger than some countries. :-/

how long term is the contract? He doesn’t get that all as a lump sum at the beginning you know, say he blows out a knee that’s the end of the cash flow. If he’s happy with it why change.
Also, Tahoe started out as a package on the Blazer, check out my 88 Blazer Tahoe:

If he’s never at home and rarely driving, it makes sense as part of a larger plan to sock away absolutely every cent possible. After all, athlete active years can be really short, and one injury... Even without a career ending injury, it makes sense to be able to save and bail out before your body is a total wreck, and in retirement you won’t be able to live the millions-a-year lifestyle anyway.
Bottom line - it can be more fun to be young, semi-retired and living on a multiple hundred thousand a year than trying to maintain an expensive lifestyle that you can’t even properly enjoy.

Even if I was sensible I would drop some money on a collector car in the least. It just does not make one bit of sense.

And their owners have a net worth 100x that of their highest salaried player. Their yachts have longer wikipedia articles and cost more than their players.

Is it his only vehicle, or a sentimental object? I know of apartments in my area that are 10K+++/month (and it isn’t Manhattan). He might not be blowing through the jackpot like some others, but there are always details.

They simply get paid what the market demands, an amount that fans and advertisers are willing to subsidize. Unfortunately for me, artists rank pretty low on that scale.

I didn't say get an expensive car. I was thinking more along the lines of an Explored or something. I will probably not earn that much money in my entire life but at some point I will be able to comfortably buy a car in that price range. Just the comfort of a more modern car should make it worthwhile.

Right, it’s not a bad idea as such, it’s just not
mandatory,
as he shows. Then again, the right sort of ordinary boring car can be like a comfortable pair of pants. “Why should I get a new car? The Blazer’s fine.”

I don't understand oppo sometimes are you not suppose to just love your car for what it is? Maybe he loves this car so much he doesn't want to sell it.

That’s a random Chevy SUV they pulled off of the web. Leonard’s Tahoe has been kind of a news “item” for something like two years now, and they have posted an “actual photo” of it before. That tweet ain’t it.
This is. Now, the catch is that there’s no proof that this is actually Leonard’s Tahoe, either. The Texas plate certainly presents a case...but it IS the first image that GIS drops if you search “1997 Chevy Tahoe.”

He could easily buy a Ferrari if he wanted to, but I think among highly-paid athletes driving something like this is probably a lot MORE exclusive than a 458/488.
